Placement in a specialised school in Gauteng normally requires supporting reports — usually an educational psychologist's assessment, and often occupational or speech therapy input as well — so the assessment process is worth starting well before you begin applying. Schools differ in what they are set up for: a remedial school supporting children with dyslexia and ADHD is a different environment from a school built around autism-spectrum support or physical disability. Class sizes are small by design, typically eight to fifteen, and therapy is sometimes on-site and included in fees, sometimes billed separately. Government LSEN schools have their own placement process through the district office and generally longer waiting lists than independent options.
