How JoziKids handles personal information, in plain language. Last updated 2 September 2026.
Who we are
JoziKids (Pty) Ltd runs jozikids.co.za, a directory of kids’ activities, schools, parties and places to go in Johannesburg. We are the “responsible party” under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). Questions or requests: info@jozikids.co.za.
What we collect, and why
Enquiry forms. Your name, email, phone (optional) and message go to the listing owner you’re contacting — that is the entire purpose of the form. We keep a copy so we can help if an enquiry goes astray. We never share your details with anyone other than that listing owner.
Newsletter. Your email address, only if you subscribe, only to send you the newsletter. Every issue has an unsubscribe link, and we only send marketing you opted in to (POPIA §69).
Reviews. Your name and email, to publish the review and prevent abuse. You choose whether your contact details display.
Provider sign-up. Business details and contact information, to create and bill your listing. Card details never touch our servers — payment is handled end-to-end by Peach Payments, a South African payment provider, inside their secured form.
“Near me” location. If you use the location control, your coordinates are used on your device to pick the nearest suburb and are then discarded. Only the suburb name and search radius ever reach our servers — your precise position never does, and it is never stored.
Site analytics
We use two analytics tools to understand how parents use the site and to fix what isn’t working: Google Analytics (via Google Tag Manager) and PostHog. Both record anonymous usage events — pages viewed, buttons clicked, searches filtered — tied to a random identifier stored in cookies or browser storage, not to your name, email or any account. We do not use analytics to build advertising profiles or sell data, and we process it on the basis of our legitimate interest in running and improving the site (POPIA §11(1)(f)).
You can object to analytics at any time (POPIA §11(3)): use your browser’s cookie controls or a content blocker to block googletagmanager.com and posthog.com, or email us and we’ll help. The site works fully without them.
Where the data goes
Analytics data is processed outside South Africa: PostHog stores its events in the European Union, and Google processes Analytics data in the United States. Both providers are bound by contractual data-protection terms that uphold protection substantially similar to POPIA (§72). Form submissions (enquiries, newsletter, reviews, sign-ups) are stored on our own servers.
Cookies and browser storage
Google Analytics sets _ga-family cookies; PostHog sets a ph_-prefixed cookie and browser storage entry. The site itself stores your chosen location (suburb and radius, never coordinates) and your dismissal of the cookie notice in your browser’s local storage — those never leave your device.
Your rights
Under POPIA you may ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to processing, and complain to the Information Regulator. Email info@jozikids.co.za and we’ll respond within a reasonable time, at no charge for access requests.
