Tutoring demand in Gauteng spikes twice a year, before the June and November exam blocks, and good tutors are booked out by then — arranging support in the first term of a difficult year works better than waiting for a report. Rates vary by level rather than subject, with matric and IEB tutoring costing meaningfully more than foundation-phase support. Online tutoring has become standard and removes the travel cost, though foundation-phase reading support generally still works better in person. If your child has a diagnosed learning difference, ask whether the tutor has specific training in it — general subject tutoring and remedial teaching are different skills, and the mismatch wastes everyone's time.
